hey! so i'm all over the place, but finally kind of settling down and recalling my to-do list. which included talking a bit about street vendors' justice. so, i can't find the well detailed response i had drafted (i will) but basically i am interested in disengaging from the super capitalist market. with street vending you can get rid of some of the crap of the market that forces people to only buy things from licensed sellers, which are more and more big corporations with terrible track records in terms of treatment of workers, animals, etc. also these state licensed products are usually licensed because they adhere to all these rules for health damaging preservatives, etc. often when buying we are really paying for environment damaging packaging and often really screwed-up advertising, etc. street vending is a way to support small business, often times healthier products, a cultural joy, and source of employment for people targetted out of the traditional job market (people with 'criminal' records- we know which groups are targeted by the prison/police industrial complex, people who dont go to pricey culinary schools, etc) so! i still havent gotten to my own produce but this is definitely something i'm thinking about personally, politically and economically. yep. alsooo. are you in santiago by any chance? i was in chile travelling and working on org farms for 4 months and am returning there in a few weeks to study for a semester (independently). be my friend? besos, p.
wow that sounds really interesting. thanks 4 shedding some light on it for me. whel informed people like yu who are trying to make a difference make me wanna tell the older generation to seriously stop dick ridin our generation. there’s so much talk about our generation being apathetic- which there are some pple but i hate when they try to generalise the whole gen, but yer a clear example that its not true.
And yeas i whil be in santiago hasta sept.voy a volver a mi universidad en sept. & yeas if were here at the same time then we can def hang out. i always enjoy makin new friends
So work got really hectic y no tuve tiempo to post otros comentarios,
pero one other thing that really bothered me about today was that there were these Americans that were also in the crowd, and the fact that they were making a spectacle out of the demonstration really pissed me off. cuz clearly the chilean students are withstanding police brutality & tear gas cuz they believe in what theyre doing & for someone to make a spectacle out of that is just not okay, at all.
